My hippo tang has popeye. She was fine till yesterday. I looked up everything I could find out. I have treated her with a reef safe antobotic and selcon. I did read some were about epso salt being used but it did not say how to dose and if it was reef safe. Any idea's and help would be great. I have left her in display becasue it says moving her could damge eye more and stress her out. She is eating an swimming fine. She looks about the same this moring the eye may be a little more clear but looks pretty much the same. I do not want to loss this fish and I am very upset.

We had a coral beauty that had pop eye and just let it go. It took almost a month to recover from it...same thing for a sebae clown a few years ago. My experience has been just to let it go...but noone wants to lose a hippo tang...Good luck with w/e you do and hope it lives for you.

metafi.x works welll it is reef safe. If you use this you need to turn off your skimmer and do water changes as per directions.

popeye is an infection and can only be treated by antibiotics. that being said, keeping your water conditions and parameters in ideal areas will help. keep doing water changes and make sure that your carbon is being changed on a regular basis. they will many times recover on their own. feeding good food such as Rods, or using selcon will help as well. be careful when using epsom salts, it is magneseum sulfate. if you start dosing it make sure that you know where your mag levels are now, and dont raise it more than 100ppm per day.

Funky I had a case in my Passer Angel when it and another angel got into a fight. Did a 30% water change in the tank and let time take care of it. Not all cases of Popeye are infections. This one was from another Angel trying to take his eye out. Sorry when you see the freaking attack and then the popeye you know what caused it. Less than a week later he was fine.

She is almost fully recovered. I guess the antibotics and selcon worked. I do weekly water changes and all my levels are very good. Thank you for all your ideas.
